
Let's create a 'Why we khordiafy' poem or song for our group!
Build a 'Why it's good to khordiafy" poem or song, visible in all the languages of your cluster's countries', and maybe even culminating in a synchronised festive event! The description below explains how to do this activity.
Over a 3- 6 month period, a khordiafy family group builds a new song or poem. The progress and final result will be visible to the whole group in all the languages of all the schools. They watch its composition grow as each khordiafying school takes its turn to add the next verse. The completed result is launched with a coordinated festive event at all the schools and this is joined by families and friends.
To start, one of the schools is selected at random to compose the first or opening stanza. This might be done by picking a name out of a hat which could be a visual/live/recorded moment and then posted to the group.
Step one: This first school asks all of their students in their khordiafy year group to submit a 5-line verse. They find a way to pick one of these as randomly as possible.
Step two: That selected first verse is published to their entire khordiafy group of schools.
Step three: Every other country’s school in the group translates this first verse into their own local language using whatever creative method will be make it visible to their whole khordiafy year group, ensuring every pupil hears the original and their own local version of verse one.
Step four: They all then submit their translation for all the other countries to see.
Step five: Repeat step 1 – 4. Each time the latest verse is published and translated, the next country is again picked from the hat to write one verse to follow on from the one before and all the other schools again translating that verse and posting it in their local language.
This process continues to repeat until there is one verse from every school in that khordiafy family.
The last school to be chosen will know that their verse will be the concluding verse.
Step six: Agree together a way to celebrate the completed poem so that it will be performed / presented / shown in a creative way at all the participating schools on the same date.
Whatever method each school does to present the finished poem at their school, it will able to also be seen in some way by all the other schools, ‘being together/apart’ media by harnessing and communications tools.
The new poem or song’s festive finale’s activities might even be shared between all of the group’s school audiences perhaps in the style of a multinational broadcast event.
